Spring Season Arrives For Men's Golf; Highlander T8th After Two Rounds Of Wexford Intercollegiate

HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The Radford men's golf team returned to the course for the first time in 2023 and is tied for 8th after two rounds at the Wexford Intercollegiate.
Playing in their first official competition since the ODU-OBX Invitational in late October, the Highlanders looked solid. As a team, they shot 300-297, good for +21 and are tied for eighth out of 18 teams with Nicholls State.
Paired with Nicholls and a familiar foe in Presbyterian College, the boys were led by Bryce Corbett (T10th). The junior shot +1 on the day thanks to six total birdies and an eagle on Hole 5 in Round 1 – one of only five eagles recorded on Monday.
Nathan Piatt continued his strong play from the fall, and is tied for 22nd at 2-over par. The Pittsburgh, Pa. product carded eight birdies over 36 holes, tied for the fourth-highest amount in the field.
Solid for most of the day, Bobby Dudeck was hurt by a triple bogey on Hole 2 in the first round and a pair of double bogeys in the second round. He rebounded well in the afternoon, jumping up seven spots on the individual leaderboard.
A pair of eights on his scorecard brought down what was otherwise a good day for Nicholas Taliaferro. The veteran golfer tallied five birdies with all five coming on different holes.
Patrick Gareiss also had five birdies, but an inconsistent performance has him tied for 78th heading into the final day.
The Highlanders shot +4 on Par 3s and +1 on Par 5s, but +31 on Par 4s where every single team seemed to struggle. Team scores on the Par 4s ranged from +16 all the way to +48.
