ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. – The Radford men's golf team bounced back to have a solid final round of the Sea Palms Invitational on Saturday, ultimately taking 16th place.
Nathan Piatt provided a steady performance for the third consecutive day, shooting a 2-over par 73 to end the weekend in a tie for 37th. He birdied the seventh hole, but his stream of pars was his most impressive feat; the sophomore tallied 36 pars over 54 holes.
Matching his teammate with a 73 of his own was Nicholas Taliaferro, who tied for 57th in an extremely competitive field of 120 golfers. The veteran also carded 36 pars over 54 holes in a solid showing.
With strong rounds from both Piatt and Taliaferro to choose from, it was Patrick Gareiss who had the best single-round score of any Radford golfer on the weekend. He poured in seven birdies to card a 3-under par 68 on Saturday, moving 36 spots up the individual leaderboard, the biggest gain of anyone in the field.
Bryce Corbett just missed out on giving Radford four players in the top half of the field, finishing the tourney in a tie for 66th place. He was at his best on Par 5's this weekend, going -4 with a 4.67 stroke average.
Completing his first full tournament as a Highlander was Max Van De Kuilen. The Vught, Netherlands product posted another 78 in the final round, but he finished on a high note thanks to three birdies and three pars over his last six holes.
Davidson took home the team title with an incredible -43 while Wright State's Mikkel Mathiesen and Jacksonville State's Erik Jansson shared the individual title at 13-under par.
