SPARTANBURG, S.C. — Julian Rojas hit another home run, but it was not enough as the Radford baseball team fell to USC Upstate 8-2 in the series opener at Harley Baseball Park on Friday evening.
Radford (8-31, 0-13 Big South) surrendered the first four runs of the game before getting on the board in the fifth inning. With a runner on second and one out, shortstop
Avery Spencer laced an RBI double down the left field line that plated
Paul Moore, cutting the deficit to 4-1.
Later in the seventh, Rojas sent a solo blast to left field, giving him his team-leading eighth homer of the season.
Second baseman
Sully Tibbs was 2-for-4 in the loss, while first baseman
Tanner Barrs went 1-for-3 with a walk.
RHP
Foster Seitz pitched a scoreless inning in relief, tossing a clean seventh.
USC Upstate (24-15, 10-3) was led by Cole Caruso, who recorded three RBI. Spartans' starting pitcher Reese Dutton earned the win on the mound, tossing six innings of one-run ball.
Dylan Howard took the loss for the visitors.
UP NEXT
Radford will get right back at it as they take on Upstate in game two of the series at 2 p.m. on Saturday. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.
