RADFORD, Va. — The Winthrop Eagles used a seven-run first inning en route to a 22-11 win over the Radford baseball team on Saturday afternoon at Carter Memorial Stadium.

Highlighting the efforts for Radford (9-38, 1-19 Big South) was second baseman Zack Whitacre, who went 2-for-3 with two runs.

Also producing offense was left fielder Julian Rojas, who was 1-for-3 with a walk and collected a pair of RBI. In the third inning, Rojas drive in Whitacre with an RBI single. The senior also added a bases-loaded walk in the ninth, part of a five-run frame for the Highlanders.

In the fourth inning, third baseman Sully Tibbs checked in with an RBI double, part of a 2-for-4 day for the freshman. In total, seven different Highlanders collected hits, including four with multi-hit performances, and eight different players notched an RBI.

Brady Houston was the winning pitcher for Winthrop (23-22, 11-9), going five innings and yielding three earned runs. Starter Ty Burton took the loss for Radford.

Radford will try to close the series out strong as they rematch the Eagles on Sunday at noon. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.
