RADFORD, Va. — The Radford baseball team posted 11 hits, but it was not enough as the Highlanders fell to Winthrop 13-5 in the series finale at Carter Memorial Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The game was called in the top of the ninth inning due to rain.
Radford (9-39, 1-20 Big South) was led by catcher
Julian Rojas, who recorded a three-hit day, going 3-for-4 with a run and two RBI. In the first inning, Rojas got Radford on the board with a two-out, run-scoring single that plated
Zack Whitacre and
Cameron Pittman and tied the game at 2-apiece.
Trailing 5-2 in the third inning, the Highlanders again mounted a rally. First baseman
Tanner Barrs got it started with an RBI single to shortstop, followed by a wild pitch that allowed Rojas to score.
Pittman would tie the game in the fifth on an RBI groundout.
Whitacre had a productive day at the plate, going 2-for-4. Right fielder
Paul Moore also collected a pair of hits.
Winthrop (24-22, 12-9) took control in the late innings, scoring the last eight runs of the ballgame. Dyson Johnson was the winner for the Eagles, pitching two scoreless innings.
