CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Big South Conference announced today that a league-record 68.08 percent of eligible student-athletes earned Presidential Honor Roll status for their work in the classroom in 2022-23.Â
Â
To be named to the Presidential Honor Roll, student-athletes must maintain a grade point average of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) or better for the recently-completed academic year, and this past season, 2,344 out of 3,443 eligible student-athletes achieved the benchmark.Â
Â
High Point University led all Big South institutions for the first time since 2019-20, as HPU had 79.80 percent of its 297 eligible student-athletes on the Presidential Honor Roll -- one of seven members to have at least 70 percent of 3.0 students. Radford University placed 79.72 percent of its 281 eligible student-athletes on the list, followed by Longwood University at 79.04 percent (181-of-229), Presbyterian College at 77.87 percent (183-of-235), Gardner-Webb University at 76.87 (339-of-441), Winthrop University at 72.11 (181-of-251) and UNC Asheville at 71.55 (166-of-232) for the year. An additional two members from this past season reached the 60 percent plateau for 3.0 GPAs: USC Upstate (67.03) and Campbell University (64.79).
Â
The Big South had an all-time high 247 student-athletes receive Commissioner's Award distinction in 2022-23 for having a 4.0 GPA. Gold Award scholars (3.75-3.99) totaled 647 while another 587 received Silver Award (3.50-3.74) accolades in 2022-23 for a combined total of 1,481 student-athletes with at least a 3.50 GPA last year -- 63.18 percent of all Presidential Honor Roll members at or above that threshold.
