Full Team Effort Lifts Women’s Soccer to 2-0 Victory Over Mount St. Mary’s

RADFORD, Va. – The Radford women's soccer team dominated in a 2-0 victory over Mount St. Mary's Sunday afternoon as 22 different Highlanders saw action. The complete team effort featured electric goals, team debuts, and career firsts for multiple Highlanders.

The Highlanders have had an electric start on the offensive end of things to start this season and that continued into Sunday's meeting. It only took two minutes into the match for Paige Olson to get the Highlanders first shot on goal. Radford would go on to dominate possession in the first half with margins of 5-0 in corners and 13-3 in shots.

In the 34th minute, Radford finally broke through. Ashley Loundermon placed a pass perfectly into the box to a wide open Hunter Rosenberg. The freshman Rosenberg fired a hot pass to June Stevens who struck it off the bounce into the left corner of the net for a 1-0 advantage. The goal was Stevens' first of the season and fourth in her career. The assist was Loundermon's first of the year, while Rosenberg wasn't done quite yet.

The second half was more of the same for Radford as the team out-shot Mount St. Mary's 9-3 to close out the match. In the 77th minute, the Highlanders played add-on. Rosenberg was in the middle of the action again as she placed another great pass to Eileen Albers who was in the middle of the box. Albers played it out to the waiting Skyler Prosser who had missed the previous two games. Prosser didn't look rusty at all as her quick strike made it a 2-0 game.

The assist was Rosenberg's second of the game and third of the season as the freshman continues to make an early impact. Albers' assist was also the second of her season, as the two freshmen lead the team in assists.

Playing in some hot weather, Radford extended its bench throughout the second half. Freshman Lexi Radvanyi came in to take over goalkeeping duties and was perfect with three saves for a clean 45 minutes. Jashyra Johnson, Audrey Cowden and Jadyn Noel all also saw their first action of the season.

"It was a great team effort today," commented head coach Ben Sohrabi. "We played a lot of players, and I felt the level didn't go down. They were very packed-in defensively and that made it really tough to break them down. For us to continue to move and swing the ball with different ways to attack helped us create enough opportunities for the two goals."

Radford hits the road for their next match but doesn't have to go far as they head to the state's capital to face Richmond on Thursday, August 31st. The Highlanders and Spiders will close the month of August with a 4:30 p.m. kickoff on ESPN+.
