Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Highlanders Lose Defensive Battle Against Wofford

SPARTANBURG, SC. – The Radford men's soccer team lose a defensive battle against Wofford, 1-0, despite an overall impressive defensive performance.

"This another game where I thought we played well but didn't get the result we were looking for against a good Wofford side" said Head Coach Barrett. "I was pleased with our overall effort and attitude. We have had a challenging week so I am proud of how our guys have responded and continue to play hard for each other. We are still finding our way in terms of creating and finishing our chances on goal. Once we get that part of our game sorted out we will be ready to get the results we are looking for".

The first half of the game the Highlanders found themselves down 1-0 early in the match. Wofford's Fabian Menendez scored the open scoring with a goal for the Terriers in the 8th minute of the ball game due to some miscommunication in the backfield that led to Wofford's goal. However, the Highlander defense didn't allow a single goal for the rest of the half due to an impressive performance by the Highlander's center backs. The Highlanders attack did have two chances at goal but both shots were off target.

For the second half Radford continued with the strong defensive performance in the last 45. While the Terriers did have a couple of chances that would've doubled the score, the defense delivered two great blocks and a shot right in front of goal that went over the bar to keep the Terriers from getting that insurance. On the offensive side of the ball, the Highlanders almost tripled their chances from the first half with four shots but were unable to find that equalizer.
