Albers Drills Hat Trick in 15 Minutes as Radford Tops Presbyterian in Big South Opener

RADFORD, Va. – The Radford women's soccer program opened Big South play with a dominant 3-1 victory over Presbyterian Saturday night as freshman Eileen Albers lit up for a hat trick with three goals in the first 15 minutes of play.

The 24th overall hat trick by a Radford player proved to be all Radford would need on the night. Albers is the first Highlander to net a hat trick since Brianna Oliver did so in March of 2021 and the first freshman to do so since Amanda Philip in 2015. Albers joins an elite list of Radford-greats as she is the 13th player to score three or more goals in one game.

Sophomore Paige Olson was right there for the first two goals by Albers. Just five minutes in, Alexeis Kirnos found Olson on the right side and Olson pounded the box as she'd do all night with a perfect pass to Albers for her first career goal.

Right at the 13th minute, Katelyn O'Donnell fed Olson once again and she placed another perfect pass into the box for the waiting Albers who wasted no time with a quick turn and strike for her second career goal. The hat trick was complete in the 15th minute as Elyse Beaudry floated a perfect pass to Albers who struck it in for the 3-0 advantage.

From then on, the Highlanders were able to park the bus and bleed the clock to victory. The Highlanders offensive intensity didn't stutter as the team out-shot Presbyterian 14-7 and out-paced the Blue Hose in corner kicks (6-3) and shots on goal (9-3).

Presbyterian was able to tack on a goal after a defensive misfire in the 58th minute, but overall freshman Lexi Radvanyi had another great night in the net. Radvanyi made an incredible save in the 32nd minute, stretching to the limits to block a solid Blue Hose shot.

"I thought the first half was the best half we played all year," commented head coach Ben Sohrabi. "We did what we were looking to do. We moved the ball so well and created chances out of possession. Very few complaints about the first half. Our second half was inconsistent. We put together some good sequences but just didn't have the same intensity level."
