Radvanyi’s Elite Effort and Loundermon’s Clutch Goal Leads to Tie at High Point

HIGH POINT, N.C. – The Radford women's soccer program went into enemy territory Wednesday night at High Point and came out with a gutsy 1-1 tie thanks to some strong defensive play by Lexi Radvanyi and an incredible goal by Ashley Loundermon.

Facing a 1-0 deficit mere seconds away from half time, senior leader Alexeis Kirnos placed a perfect pass into the box. Loundermon came sprinting in and without missing a beat placed a perfect header off Kirnos' pass into the top-left corner of the net to tie things back at one-all.

For a majority of the night, both teams were locked in a defensive battle with near misses proving the difference maker. Reigning Offensive Player of the Week Eileen Albers came up just short from scoring four straight goals for Radford as her header in the third minute rang off the crossbar.

Ten minutes later, High Point also had another great strike from over 20 yards out that Radvanyi made a great leaping save on. In the second half, Radford flipped the control of possession for the final 20 minutes and had multiple opportunities just come up short. In the 80th minute, Radvanyi made her biggest save of the night. A shot from the Panthers seemed destined to sneak in, but the freshman got just enough of her glove on the shot to deflect it and send it into the crossbar.

With a hard-fought effort on both ends, Radford settled for the tie in enemy territory. The Highlanders remain unbeaten in conference play and gain a point through the early goings of conference play.

"It was just another classic, hard-fought battle between High Point and Radford," commented head coach Ben Sohrabi. "I thought both teams played with a lot of heart and determination and wanted it. In the end a draw on the road isn't what our goal was, but we will take it."

  • UNC Asheville bounces back with a dominant 4-1 win at Presbyterian, handing the Blue Hose their second loss of the conference season.
