Swain’s Late First Half Goal Propels Radford to Big Road Win

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Radford women's soccer program competed in their second straight road Big South match Saturday afternoon and came out with a big 1-0 win over Charleston Southern.

Similar to Radford's last match at High Point, the Highlanders showed no quit for the full 90 minutes as their goal came in the closing seconds of the first half. With just 40 seconds left, Alexeis Kirnos served up another perfect pass to Amy Swain who struck it into the lower right corner of the net for the 1-0 lead.

The goal was Swain's second of the season and 14th of her career at Radford. It was also the Ashburn, Va. native's fifth game-winning goal of her career. Kirnos remains hot supplying assists in both of Radford's goals this week to move her conference second-best point total to 12.

The Highlanders played another clean, even match in their win keeping the intensity despite the back-to-back road matches. Charleston Southern, coming off a bye and not playing earlier this week, was 1-0 against Big South teams coming into Saturday's meeting. Radford still managed to out-shoot Charleston Southern 11-9, lead 6-4 in shots on goal and lead 5-2 in corner kicks.

Freshman Lexi Radvanyi was excellent once again for the Highlanders today. It was Radvanyi's third shutout in her young career and with four more saves her goals against average (0.91) will remain a top-three mark in the Big South. The defensive backline of Helena Willson, Jillian Silverstone, Kayla Edwards and Elyse Beaudry also marked their fourth shutouts participated in this season.

"I am really proud of our team and the effort they showed today," commented head coach Ben Sohrabi. "It was a very tough situation to be playing our second conference game in a row on the road and in temperatures that we aren't completely used to against a team that didn't play Wednesday. It was a real team effort. We played most of our players that we brought, and the level stayed high throughout."
