CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Big South Conference announced Monday afternoon that freshman
Eileen Albers has been named Offensive Player of the Week after her incredible hat trick within the first 15 minutes of Saturday's 3-1 win over Presbyterian.
Albers broke out in a big way Saturday night accounting for all three of Radford's goals in the 3-1 win. Albers is the first Highlander to net a hat trick since 2021 and the first freshman to do so since 2015.
The Melsungen, Germany native joins an elite list of Radford-greats as she is the 13th player to score three or more goals in one game. The goals for Albers were her first, second and third career goals. Already with three assists on the season, Albers now ranks tied for fourth in the Big South for points.
The Highlanders have now collected four conference weekly awards this season. Albers joins fellow teammates
Alexeis Kirnos,
Lexi Radvanyi and
Hunter Rosenberg as Radford has had representation in four of six weekly award lists this season. The four awards are second-most in the Big South this season, just one behind UNC Asheville but two ahead of the next closest team.
A big test awaits Albers and the Highlanders later this week as the team travels to High Point. The Highlanders and Panthers will meet in a pivotal Big South match on Wednesday, September 27th with a 7 p.m. kickoff on ESPN+.
