CLEMSON, S.C. – The Radford women's basketball program fought hard early in a meeting with Clemson Sunday, but a rough second quarter paved the way for Clemson to pull out the 74-48 final.
KEY STATS
PLAY BY PLAY
The Highlanders came into Sunday's game with a strong energy especially on the defensive end. Cate Carlson had the first points of the day, giving Radford a 2-0 lead. Radford wouldn't allow a made shot from the floor by Clemson until the 4:53 mark allowing Joi Williams and Traylor-Walker to score some buckets and keep Radford ahead.
A three and layup by Traylor-Walker had Radford up 11-7, but Clemson responded with a 10-0 run. A three by Firebaugh kept things close, however, as Radford trailed just 17-14 after ten minutes. To start the second, Adriana Shipp-Davis joined in on the scoring with a three of her own that tied the game.
The Highlanders would suffer a long scoring drought, but the defense kept things close at 26-20 with four minutes left in the half. Clemson's biggest scoring run of the day closed the half as a 14-1 Tigers run made it a lopsided 40-22 halftime score.
The Highlanders were able to put that run behind them to keep the final to quarters closer in the score column. Traylor-Walker continued to find success in the paint scoring six straight points for Radford to open the second half. Firebaugh also added an eight-point swing of her own with two threes and a pair of free throws as Radford trailed 63-38 headed into the fourth.
The defense locked things down in the fourth holding Clemson to a game-low 11 points. Kirah Dandridge earned her first points of the game with a three while Kirby Brown ignited a late run with four straight points for the Highlanders, her most in a single game this season. Clemson would hold on, however, sealing the 74-48 final.
