Highlanders Make Strong First Impressions at First Outdoor Meet of the Year

RICHMOND, Va. – The Highlanders began their Outdoor Track & Field season Friday at the Fred Hardy Invitational hosted by Richmond. As a team, the Highlanders set the tone for the season marking spots in four different top-10 program record lists as well as 19 total personal bests.
 
Sophie Magson moved her name up in Radford's outdoor record book for the 1500m coming in at 4:32.14, a personal best. She earned a third place finish in the event and now ranks third overall in program history. MegAnne Gilmore ran her way to sixth place with a time of 4:36.04. Kate McLearen placed 15th earning a new outdoor personal record. Mia Farley and Kayla Fields also made personal bests making their outdoor track and field debut for the Highlanders.
 
In the 800m, Gilmore continued her great day placing seventh in the event with a time good for the fifth spot in the outdoor record book running 2:15.25. Magson came in 12th place at 2:17.33. McLearen, Farley and Fields all also earned personal bests as well.
 
Raichelle Cornelius kept the big performances rolling putting her name in the outdoor record book for the 200m. She enters the record book at ninth with a time of 25.45. Jordan Jackson also finished in the top-15 with a new personal best. Additionally, Sela Beatty charted a personal best in the 200m.

Mackenzie Brownrigg rounded out the record book finishes with her top-10 finish in the 5000m with a time of 18:07.99, which places her tenth in the program top-10 list.

In the 400m, Cornelius earned her first top-10 finish of the day finishing eighth with Jackson earning an outdoor personal record in the same event.

Jaslyne Robinson finished in third for the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:05.10. In the 100m hurdles, Robinson stayed hot placing in fourth at 14.77 with Kandace McIvor also achieving a top-10 finish. Johniece Jones made her debut in the event and placed in the top-15.
 
All three Highlanders that competed earned personal bests in the long jump. McIvor placed eighth with a distance of 5.13m. Katja Kehlenbeck and Jones also earned personal bests during their Radford outdoor debut.
 
The Rosser duo competed in the discus throw with Mya Rosser placing within the top-5 while Jaylen Rosser set an outdoor PR.

The Highlanders head to William & Mary Friday, April 5 through Saturday, April 6 for the Colonial Relays.
