CLINTON, S.C. – Radford women's lacrosse continued their hot streak Saturday afternoon against Presbyterian winning 16-6.
Mady Cheney and
Margaret Gleason earned six goals apiece to lead their team to victory.
Radford dominated the first quarter leaving Presbyterian scoreless to clinch the lead. After a series of turnovers from both sides,
Emily Strother picked up a groundball to secure the ball for the Highlanders. From there, Gleason found the opportunity to score earning her first of many goals on the day.
Laura Ferko followed immediately with a goal after fighting her way to earn the draw control.
With the game at 3-0 thanks to another goal by Cheney, Presbyterian tried to retaliate but could not as their shot was blocked. Strother then picked up another ground ball to give Radford control once again. With an assist from
McKenzie Hines,
Hannah Hanger's shot found the back of the net to conclude the first quarter scoring.
Riding the high, Gleason scored less than 60 seconds into the second quarter. After a fight for possession, Cheney earned the next goal after the game was held scoreless for nearly 10 minutes. Presbyterian took advantage of their free position shot to get on the board setting the game at 6-1. However,
River Rupert forced a turnover and scooped up the ball determined to further the lead.
Linley Tirrell found herself in the position to score off a free position. She was able to get the last goal of the first half to maintain momentum.
Cheney earned her hat trick right off the bat in the second half as
Taylor Rogahn controlled the draw.
Piper Galbraith obtained her second collegiate goal as she took advantage of Gleason's caused turnover. The quarter ended with another Cheney goal and despite efforts from
Olivia Hunter stopping two shots, Presbyterian found their way past the brick wall to set the score at 10-3.
Despite the run by the Blue Hose, Radford remained in high spirits and retaliated by going on a 3-0 run with goals by Cheney and back-to-back goals by Gleason. Presbyterian was able to earn the next three draw controls which ultimately led to three goals for the Blue Hose.
However, their scoring would end there as a save by
Ava LaManna would stop the run and Cheney would earn her single-game career high sixth goal off a free position. A turnover would give
Ashlyn Grogan the opportunity to see an open Gleason for another Radford goal. Thanks to a draw control by
Riley Cross, the scoring duo was able to do it again putting the nail in the coffin for a 16-6 win.
