Baseball Adds Biagini to Coaching Staff

RADFORD, Va. – The Radford baseball program announced Wednesday morning that Tanner Biagini will be joining the coaching staff for the upcoming 2025 season.

Biagini, coming from Towson where he served as Associate Head Coach for the last three seasons with seven total years on the assistant coaching staff, bolsters the Highlanders coaching staff with a wealth of baseball knowledge. With the Tigers he worked primarily with the catchers and hitters while serving as the third base coach.

"I want to thank Coach Tyner for my time with him at Towson, he has always been a mentor for me since we met 11 years ago, and I am grateful that he continued to challenge me to grow as a coach and as a person during our time together," commented Biagini. "I am excited and grateful to be joining Coach Guerra's staff here at Radford. I respected the way he played the game during our time against each other as players and continued to respect his work ethic and his coaching style over the years as he has climbed the coaching ranks. Lastly I want to thank my family for all of their support over the years. Especially my wife, it is not easy being married to a college coach and even tougher while raising our sons while working full time herself. Our family is very excited to be moving to the New River Valley and becoming a part of the Radford community."

"Tanner is an outstanding fit for Radford," added head coach Alex Guerra. "Throughout his career at the Division I level, he has shown the ability to recruit and develop players.  His extensive relationships with travel and high school coaches in the area will give us an advantage from a recruiting standpoint. Tanner has the personality, knowledge, and experience to make players better. We are excited to welcome Tanner, his wife Ashley, and their two sons Gio and Gabe to the Highlander Baseball family!"

In his first year as associate head coach in 2022, Towson finished 10th in program history with 50 home runs during the season. In his second year as associate head coach, Towson hitters improved to crank an even larger 70 home runs, which ranks fourth all-time in program history. The beat went on in 2024 as the Tigers under his guidance drove in 250 runs with four batters hitting over .300 on the season.

During his previous first four years with the team as an assistant, Towson ranked in the top-3 in the CAA in caught stealing % by catchers, including first in 2018 and 2020. In 2021, Biagini helped coach Towson to its first CAA Tournament since 2013 and the highest win total since 2014.  Four of Towson's top five hitters in batting average were newcomers.

Biagini helped with the hitting of Richie Palacios, who was drafted in the third round by the Cleveland Indians in 2018 and is a current member of the Tampa Bay Rays.  Palacios earned Second Team All-CAA at shortstop in 2018.

Prior to Towson, Biagini spent three seasons as an assistant at Lafayette College.  In his role with the Leopards, Biagini worked with the hitters and catchers, while also handling pregame scouting reports.

Prior to his time at LC, Biagini spent three years as a volunteer assistant and camp director at the University of Richmond.  The Spiders qualified for the Atlantic 10 tournament in each of his three seasons and advanced to the championship game in 2012.

In his playing days, Biagini was a four-year starting third baseman for VMI.  He served as a team captain his senior year as the Keydets reached their highest national ranking in program history, coming in at No. 26.  He was a 2008 First-Team Virginia SID All-State selection.  In 2007, he helped the team win a school-record 34 games.

At the conclusion of his collegiate career, he became a member of the Tampa Bay Rays organization and played for the Gulf Coast League affiliate as an infielder and catcher in 2010 and with the New York-Penn League Hudson Valley Renegades in 2011.
