Simonsen Named Big South Freshman of the Week for Second Time

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Radford women's basketball's Georgia Simonsen was named the Big South Freshman of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Monday.

The Fairfax, Va. native reached new heights in her collegiate career with several signature performances this past week. In limited action against Division II Concord, she totaled eight points and eight rebounds in 14 minutes of action. On Thursday, Simonsen recorded her second double-double with a dozen points and rebounds. She corralled seven rebounds over the fourth quarter and overtime while adding three clutch baskets in a close win at Hampton. The freshman finished with the week with an impressive 15 points against Virginia Tech, tying her career best. It was the first time a Radford freshman had scored double figures against the Hokies since 2014.

The award is Simonsen's second of the campaign, taking her first conference honor as freshman of the week for November 17-23. This is the third Big South weekly award for Radford women's basketball this season.

The Highlanders have a break before starting conference play. They'll travel to South Carolina for a game against Presbyterian on New Year's Eve. Tipoff is at Noon from the home of the Blue Hose and can be seen on ESPN+ and heard on WRAD 1460 AM.
