Radford Extends Head Baseball Coach Alex Guerra Through 2030 Season

RADFORD, Va. – Following an incredible 2025 campaign, Radford University and Alex Guerra have agreed to a contract extension for the program's head coach through the 2030 season.

"
I'm incredibly grateful for the opportunity to continue leading Radford Baseball," commented Guerra. "Thank you to President Danilowicz, AD Robert Lineburg, and Associate AD Cory Durand for their belief in me and our vision for this program. I'm also thankful for our outstanding assistant coaches and support staff—their dedication and hard work are the backbone of our program. I also want to express my appreciation to our alumni, whose continued support and connection to this program help drive us forward. Their pride in Radford Baseball is felt every day by our staff and players."

"Most of all, I'm thankful for our players—tough, resilient young men who make it a joy to come to the field every day. They have embodied our culture every day and are the reason why our program has made a positive step forward. I love coaching this group, I love Radford, and I'm proud to be part of this community. The future is bright, and I'm excited to keep building something special here."

Just finishing up his third, and likely most unique, season at the helm of the Radford Baseball program, Guerra continued the Highlanders rebuild to renewed heights with an impressive 2025 campaign that ended with the team's first winning record since the 2021 season and first Big South postseason appearance since 2019.

Despite being without a home field for most of the Fall and Winter seasons due to the effects of Hurricane Helene in 2024, Radford saw marked improvements across the board. The Highlanders offense ranked top 100 in Division I for batting average, double, triples, and stolen bases while the defense turned the 34th most double plays in the nation.

During the 2025 campaign, Radford claimed key victories over UNC Greensboro, Georgetown, Virginia Tech (first ranked win since 2015), ETSU, and James Madison while in conference play earning sweeps over USC Upstate, Winthrop, Presbyterian and series victories over Gardner-Webb and UNC Asheville. Moving on to postseason play, the Highlanders earned a dominant victory over Presbyterian for their first tournament win since 2018.

A total of five Highlanders would earn conference weekly awards under Guerra's guidance, the most in a single season since 2019. At the conclusion of the season, various Radford student-athletes earned postseason recognition such as Hunter Keen (First-Team), Breckin Nace (Second-Team), James Ward (Honorable Mention) and Eli Hudgins (All-Freshman).
