Holly Cline

Dr. Holly Cline

Dr. Holly Cline is the Department Chair of the Department of Design in the College of Visual & Performing Arts at Radford and was named the Faculty Athletics Representative in March.

Cline joined the staff at Radford in 1997. Her teaching responsibilities during her tenure have included; Health Care Design, Restaurant Design, Residential Design, Presentation Graphics, Introduction to Design, Professional Practice and Ethics, Design Fundamentals Sophomore Studio, Drafting and Portfolio Development. In addition, she oversees the online MFA in Design Thinking Program.
 
Cline is certified by the National Council for Interior Designers (NCIDQ), is a LEED Accredited Professional and has taught for over 20 years at the college level.  Cline is passionate about finding creative solutions and innovation within the parameters of Design Thinking and socially responsible design. In 2006, Dr. Cline received Radford University’s outstanding advisor award. In 2008, Cline received the presidential citation merit award for Interior Design Educators Council (IDEC) for her involvement with Interior Design Continuing Education Council and most recently received the 2014 service award from IDEC.

She has been the keynote speaker at numerous conferences, luncheons and workshops. She is currently a CIDA accreditation site visitor, was placed on the CAA taskforce for the committee on Design and became part of the inaugural committee on design (CoD) for the CAA (College Art Association). In addition, she is a member of the IDEC Foundation Board. Dr. Cline created and implemented the first ever Design Thinking graduate program in the United States at Radford University and the program was recently recognized by Design Intelligence for Design Technologies, Theory and Practice, Engineering Fundamentals, Healthy Built Environments, Research, Sustainable and Adaptive Design, and Practice Management.
 
She earned her PhD in Apparel, Housing & Resource management from Virginia Tech, her Masters of Art in Interior Design from the University of Kentucky and her Bachelors of Fine Art from Centre College.
 
During her time at Center College she was a two sport letterman athlete in Basketball and Softball and made two NCAA basketball tournament appearances for Division III sports.
