HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – On the heels of her first collegiate title,
Hannah Coles (Birmingham, England) is just two strokes off the pace and the Radford women's golf team is currently sixth following the opening round of the Lady Herd Fall Classic Monday.
The 36-hole event hosted by Marshall University is being played on the par-72, 6,036-yard Sleepy Hollow Golf Course.
Coles, the reigning Big South Co-Women's Golfer of the Week, fired an even-par 36 on the front side before finishing with a 75, which places her alone in third behind Virginia Espejo (Southern Mississippi) and Anna Camtell (Cincinnati), who will share the overnight lead.
Radford's
Megan Leineweber (Salisbury, Md.), who is trying for her third top-20 showing of the fall, sits in a tie for 16th with three other golfers.
As a team, the Highlanders shot a 319 and are just three strokes out of third and 12 swings behind tournament leader Cincinnati. Radford is looking for its second top five showing in as many tournaments.
Brittany Hine (Elkton, Va),
Jade Okamoto (Huntington Beach, Calif.) and
Maggie Watts (Paris, Ky.) are also competing for Radford and each carded rounds of 82 placing them in a tie for 30th.
The two-day event will conclude Tuesday with tee times beginning at 9 a.m.
