Highlanders Start Strong, Finish Sixth at Kingsmill Intercollegiate

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The Radford women's golf program had a strong start but ultimately slipped to a sixth place finish this week competing at the Kingsmill Intercollegiate. Caroline Gilreath and Grace Addison led the Highlanders, both placing 11th individually.

After one round of play the Highlanders started strong and would rank third among the 15 programs competing at just +13. Leading those efforts was Mckenzie Weddle who was at 1-over in the first round thanks to a birdie on hole 12 and an eagle on hole 9. Gilreath tallied the most birdies for Radford in round one with three, scoring 3-over.

Macy Johnson and Shea Smith turned in solid first rounds as well at 4-over and 5-over, respectively. Kaitlyn Mosdell, competing individually, had a solid first round at 9-over which was just outside Radford's top five.

Action in round two saw the Highlanders hold their spot among the top three. Gilreath stayed hot with another three birdies as she led the team at 1-over. Grace Addison also finished at 6-over with a birdie as she began climbing the individual leaderboard. Rounding out Radford's top finishers for the day were Weddle at 8-over and Johnson at 10-over.

Addison would continue leading Radford into the final round on Tuesday, but the team slipped back to their final finish of sixth place which still ranked in the top half of the competing field of teams. In the final round, Addison posted Radford's best showing scoring 2-over to end as Radford's best individual finish of the week at ninth with Gilreath right behind her tying for 11th. The pair were also followed closely by Weddle, who posted a solid third round to place 16th overall.
