HUNTINGTON, W.Va. –
Hannah Coles (Birmingham, England) came from two shots back to win her second consecutive individual tournament title and the Radford women's golf team finished their fall campaign with a final round 305 to place tied for second at the 2008 Lady Herd Fall Classic.
The 36-hole event hosted by Marshall University was played on the par-72, 6,036-yard Sleepy Hollow Golf Course.
Coles, who entered the day alone in third, fired a one-over 73 this morning, thanks to five birdies, which included holing out from 100 yards on the par-4 11th hole, to conclude the two-day event at four-over par (75-73=148).
A week ago, the reigning Big South Co-Women's Golfer of the Week erased a one-stroke deficit to claim a share of her first career medalist honor at the Charleston Southern Invitational.
As a team, the Highlanders improved on yesterday's total by 14 strokes to climb from sixth into a tie for second, and were awarded the runner-up trophy based on a tiebreaker.
Radford's #
Megan Leineweber# (Salisbury, Md.) bolted up the leaderboard 13 spots after carding a season-low 74 to finish tied for third with three other golfers. It was Leineweber's second consecutive top-five showing and third top 20 of the slate.
Also competing for the Highlanders were #
Brittany Hine# (Elkton, Va.) and #
Jade Okamoto# (Huntington Beach, Calif.), who placed in a tie for 24th, while #
Maggie Watts# (Paris, Ky.) finished with a group of golfers in 34th place.
Towson edged Radford by four swings for the team title with a 36-hole total of 620 (316-304).
The Highlanders conclude their fall slate with three top-10 finishes, including back-to-back showings of fourth and second, respectively. Radford will open its 2009 spring season at the Low County Intercollegiate, March 7-8 in Hilton Head, S.C.
