CHARLESTON, S.C. – On a course that was playing much tougher day two, Radford's
Hannah Coles (Birmingham, England) carded a final round 76 to finish tied with Charleston Southern's Olivia Jordan-Higgins for the individual title at the 2008 CSU Fall Invitational at Coosaw Creek Country Club.
As a team, the Highlanders carded a two-day total of 628 (316-312), giving them their second top-10 showing of the fall slate and highest placing since finishing third at the Lady Monarch Invitational a year ago.
A product of The Coleshill School, Coles entered the last day of the 36-hole event one stroke off the pace, following a two-over 73 on her first 18 holes of competition. The sophomore's final day score was seven strokes better than the field of 53's average (83.33) and bettered by just one golfer Tuesday.
Along with Coles, #
Megan Leineweber# (Salisbury, Md.) climbed the leaderboard with a six-over 77 to finish tied for fourth with three other competitors at 10-over par. Last season's event hosted by Old Dominion is also the last time Radford had two individuals finish inside the top 10.
Also competing for the Highlanders was #
Jade Okamoto# (Huntington Beach, Calif.), who improved on her day- one total by seven strokes with a 78, to place tied for 17th, while
Maggie Watts (Paris, Ky.) and
Brittany Hine (Elkton, Va.) also recorded Top 30 finishes.
Tournament host Charleston Southern claimed the team title with a score of 610 (300-310), edging Big South foe Coastal Carolina by four strokes. Bethune-Cookman placed third just three strokes ahead of the Highlanders.
The Radford women's golf team will conclude their fall campaign at the 2008 Marshall Intercollegiate in Huntington, W.Va., Oct. 6-7.
