RADFORD, Va. -- Winners of four straight and five consecutive against Big South opponents, Radford looks to extend its streaks Saturday evening in a 7 p.m. contest at High Point.
HIGHLANDER HITS
- The Highlanders enter the contest 8-9 overall and 5-1 in the league following an 82-53 win over Charleston Southern Monday in Radford. The 29-point triumph was RU's largest margin of victory in a conference tilt since Jan. 18, 1999 when it defeated Coastal Carolina 104-75.
-
Art Parakhouski (Minsk, Belarus), who ranks among national leaders (15th) and leads the league in rebounds per game (10.4), paced the Highlanders against CSU with 19 points and 14 rebounds for his ninth double-double of the campaign.
Kenny Thomas (Richmond, Va./Highland Springs) was just behind Parakhouski with 18 points, including four buckets from long range.
Joey Lynch-Flohr (Fairfax, Va./Fairfax) added 15 points and five assists for Radford, while
Eric Hall (Greensboro, N.C./Ben L. Smith) hit the 10-point plateau for the second time in as many contests with 11.
- Thomas is just 14 points shy of becoming the 23rd player in Radford men's basketball history to hit the 1,000 point plateau.
- On their longest winning streak since the 2005-06 campaign, the Highlanders haven't strung together five consecutive wins since February of 2002.
- A win against the Panthers would also give Radford six straight wins in league play, something that hasn't been done since the Highlanders went 12-2 against the Big South in 1999-00, which is also the last time they began a conference slate 6-1.
- As a team, Radford leads the Big South in field-goal percentage defense (.407), defensive rebounds (27.0) and rebounding margin (+5.2).
- High Point comes into the 25th all-time meeting 5-11 overall and 1-5 in the league following a 61-59 setback at UNC Asheville Tuesday evening. It was the Panthers' third straight contest decided on the final possession.
- Eugene Harris, who is High Point's all-time leader in three-point field goals, leads the way offensively for the Panthers with a scoring average of 12.4 per outing.
- Radford returns home and to the newly renovated Dedmon Center Wednesday, Jan. 21 when it hosts league-leading VMI in a 7 p.m. contest.
