RADFORD, Va. -- After playing its first nine home games at Peters Hall, Radford returns to the newly-renovated Dedmon Center Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. when it hosts VMI in a battle for the top spot in the Big South standings.
HIGHLANDER HITS
- Riding a five-game winning streak, the Highlanders enter 9-9 overall and tied for first in the conference with VMI at 6-1 following a 65-52 triumph at High Point Saturday.
- In its win over the Panthers,
Kenny Thomas (Richmond, Va./Highland Springs) became the 23rd player in Radford men's basketball history to hit the 1,000-point plateau, while leading five Highlanders in double figures with 14 points, including four three-pointers.
Joey Lynch-Flohr (Fairfax, Va./Fairfax) added 13, while
Eric Hall (Greensboro, N.C./Ben L. Smith) contributed 11 points off the bench for the third time in as many contests.
Art Parakhouski (Minsk, Belarus) and
Chris McEachin (Norfolk, Va./Norview) also hit double digits with 10 points each.
- Parakhouski, who ranks among national leaders in rebounds per game (16th/10.3), continues to lead three Radford players in double figures with a scoring average of 14.5 per outing.
- In conference games only, Radford leads the league in scoring margin (+11.3), free throw percentage (.750), field goal percentage defense (.397), rebounding margin (+8.4), and defensive rebounds (28.0).
- Each of Radford's nine wins this season have been by 10 points or more.
- Radford is on its longest winning streak since the 1999-2000 season. The Highlanders haven't strung together six consecutive wins since the 1998-99 campaign, which is also the last time they won seven straight league games.
- VMI enters the contest 14-3 overall and 6-1 in the league after having its 10-game winning streak snapped Saturday afternoon in a 91-80 setback to Liberty.
- Along with leading the country in scoring (95.7 ppg.), the Keydets hold the nation's top spot in three-pointers made (229) and treys per contest (13.5). On the defensive end, opponents are shooting 50 percent from the floor against VMI.
- The Highlanders and VMI met twice a year ago on the hardwood, with Radford winning both contests in overtime. Ironically, the last men's game played at the Dedmon Center was between Radford and VMI.
- Radford will go back on the road for the first of three straight away from home beginning with a 7 p.m. contest at Liberty Saturday evening.
