Field Hockey Wraps Up Home Schedule With Davidson on Saturday

Highlanders Sit Atop NorPac East Standings at 3-0

RADFORD, Va. -- Coming off a league road win at Davidson on Wednesday night, Radford field hockey concludes its home-and-home series with the Wildcats Saturday at 1 p.m. at RU Field Hockey Field. It is also the final home match of 2009 for the Highlanders, who conclude the regular season with four contests on the road.

The Highlanders are 31-4 at home since 2000 with two of those losses coming at the hands of the Wildcats (2003 & 2008). Radford is 24-9-2 all-time against Davidson (4-10, 0-3 NorPac) and 11-3-1 at home.

Radford (7-7) improved to 3-0 in the league after its win at Davidson, sitting in first place, one game ahead of Longwood (2-1). It was the second road win of the season for the Highlanders, the first since Aug. 29 at Siena.

The Highlanders opened the scoring in the 10th minute on a goal by junior Kay Tufts (Virginia Beach, Va./Ocean Lakes). Six minutes later, classmate Megan Lenhardt (Gloucester, Va./Gloucester) scored the eventual game-winner, which was also her first collegiate goal.

The Wildcats cut the lead to 2-1 with an early second-half goal by Finley Amato, but junior Lara Cariker gave (Fredericksburg, Va./Chancellor) Radford its two-goal cushion back, finding the back of the cage at 51:43. Another junior, Jen Wisniewski (Centreville, Va./Westfield), made six saves for the Highlanders. Sophomore Lynsey Daughtrey (Suffolk, Va./Lakeland) assisted on two of the goals, while her classmate Madonna Wadolowski (Norwalk, Conn./Brien McMahon) helped out on Tufts' score.

Sophomore Marlee Schramm (Mantua, N.J./West Deptford), who highlighted Radford's 4-1 win against Appalachian State last week was named the league's East Offensive Player of the Week. She tallied two goals, including the game-winner and assisted on another score.

Sophomore Courtney Poole (Gloucester, Va./Gloucester) leads the Highlanders with six goals and 13 points. Cariker and Tuft are second on the team with four goals and nine points apiece. Wadolowski and Daughtrey have half of Radford's 18 assists with five and four, respectively. In goal, Wisniewski is posting a 2.26 GAA with 82 saves and a .719 save percentage.

For the Wildcats, Amato paces the offense with four goals and nine points. Christine Rua, Ellie Szykowny and Brit Donaldson have each tallied two goals. Christa Goeke has made 67 saves and has recorded a 3.39 GAA.

Radford wraps up conference play next weekend on the road facing Longwood at 5 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 23 and Appalachian State on Sunday, Oct. 25 at 1 p.m. After a mid-week contest at No. 3 Virginia on Oct. 28, the Highlanders conclude regular season play against Georgetown on Nov. 1 at American University.
