FIELD HOCKEY FALLS TO CALIFORNIA IN SEASON FINALE

BOX SCORE

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Radford fell in its final match of the season as it was defeated by California, 5-1 in the consolation round of the NorPac Championship on Friday morning at Liberty Field Hockey Field.

Sophomore Stacey Mackintosh tallied the Highlanders' lone goal and senior Sidney Encarnacion made eight of Radford's 12 saves. Sophomore Jillian Lates stopped the other four shots. Encarnacion's eight saves capped off a career in which she made 382, 381 the last three seasons, and finished ranked sixth in the all-time record books.

The Golden Bears (7-12) got on the board just 1:53 into the match as a long ball from outside of the circle deflected off a RU defender and into the cage. Nichole Henrikkson gave Cal a 2-0 lead in the 21st minute off a centering pass from Nicole Wallstedt.

Mackintosh cut the Highlanders' (5-16) deficit in half as she converted a penalty stroke 2:36 after Henrikkson's score. It was the Crofton, Md. native's fourth goal of the season.

Cal scored two minutes after that to regain its two-goal advantage and would add two more in the second half to close out the scoring.

The Bears outshot the Highlanders, 18-7 and had a 9-5 advantage in corners. Senior Alayna Versage and sophomore Marianna Parker charted two shots apiece for Radford.
