Parakhouski and 1st Place Highlanders Win Record Eighth Straight Road Game, 80-71

CHARLESTON, S.C. -- Art Parakhouski (Minsk, Belarus) scored 20 of his season-high 29 points in the second half to lead Radford to a school record eighth straight road win, 80-71 over Charleston Southern Monday at CSU Fieldhouse.

Along with a new milestone for consecutive wins away from home, the Highlanders extended their overall streak to seven and grabbed a two-game lead in the Big South standings with VMI's setback earlier in the evening at Presbyterian.

“Eight consecutive conference road wins is a remarkable achievement,” commented Radford head coach Brad Greenberg. “Our team has really grown this season, and I couldn't be more proud of them.”

Parakhouski, who was one of three Radford (16-10, 13-2) players in double figures, missed just two of his 11 attempts from the field and finished 11-of-16 from the charity stripe en route to his fourth 20-point effort of the year. Joey Lynch-Flohr (Fairfax, Va./Fairfax) and Amir Johnson (Pittsburgh, Pa./Quaker Valley) contributed 16 points each for the Highlanders. Johnson, who went the distance also made all six of his free throws and handed out six assists.

To go along with the play of Parakhouski and Lynch-Flohr down on the blocks, Eric Hall (Greensboro, N.C./Ben L. Smith) grabbed seven rebounds in 16 minutes of action for the second time in as many outings.

Radford, which canned 56.7 percent (17-30) of its attempts in the first 20 minutes of action, used a pair of 13-4 runs in the period to grab a 42-29 lead at the half.

Johnson and Lynch-Flohr led the Highlanders at the break with 10 points each, combining to go 9-for-12 from the floor.

Charleston Southern began the second half on a 9-3 run, with all nine points coming from Omar Carter, including a pair of threes to cut the deficit to 45-38. Highlighted by a pair of three-point plays and seven free throws, Parakhouski scored the next 13 points for the Highlanders to stretch the margin back to double digits.

Jamarco Warren's trey with 2:07 remaining made it a six-point contest, 72-66, but that's as close as the Buccaneers would get the rest of the way as Radford drilled all eight of its attempts from the charity stripe down the stretch.

Carter led Charleston Southern (7-18, 2-12) with his third straight double-double and eighth of the season with 18 points and 12 rebounds. Warren added 16 for the Bucs, while Giedrius Knysas scored 14.

“Charleston Southern played very hard tonight, and we were able to win without Kenny Thomas (Richmond, Va./Highland Springs) in the second half.”

Thomas left game with an apparent back injury.

The Highlanders finished the contest shooting 50 percent (26-52) and held a 38-35 edge on the glass.

Radford will conclude their final round swing of the season with a 4 p.m. televised (MASN) contest at VMI Saturday afternoon, with a chance to clinch the regular season crown.

NOTES: With the victory, Radford tied its school record for conference wins in a season… The Highlanders are on their longest winning streak since the 1998-99...
