ORLANDO, Fla. - Strong doubles play and timely singles play down the line helped Radford to a 5-2 win over Seton Hall Friday morning in women's tennis action at Sanlando Park.
The Highlanders improve to 8-4 overall, while the Pirates drop to 4-7.
Radford concludes its “Spring Break” winning its last four out of five matches, while sweeping the doubles point in each of the triumphs.
"Our girls really played good and battled," commented head coach Bruce Harrison.
Ally Spector (Laurel, Md. /Reservoir) and
Mia Drobnjak (Zagreb, Croatia/Sportska gimnazija) outdueled Denise Liebschner and Belfin Sunbul to give the Highlanders an early 1-0 advantage in the match.
Radford's duo of
Mirna Matic (Umag, Croatia/Vladmir Gortna Buje) and
Christina Hammond (Charles Town, W.Va./Jefferson) pushed their winning streak to five with an 8-5 win over Slavina Kaplanska and Liza Chu.
In singles competition, Spector recovered from a first-set deficit to defeat Slavina Kaplanska, 6-7 (3-7), 6-0, 10-2, to secure the victory for the Highlanders.
Petra Dajevic (Zagreb, Croatia/Sportska gimnazija) continues to roll in singles competition as she defeated Denise Liebschner in straight-sets to run her streak to four consecutive.
Radford will be back in action Sunday with an 11 a.m. match against conference foe Gardner-Webb at The Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center in Blacksburg.
