RADFORD, Va. -- Strong doubles play and six straight singles wins helped Radford to a 7-0 win over North Carolina Central Monday afternoon in women's tennis action.
The Highlanders reached 11 wins for just the second time in school history as they improve to 11-4, while the Eagles drop to 3-12.
Ally Spector (Laurel, Md. /Reservoir) and
Emerald Lauzon (Bristol, Va. /John S Battle) dropped just one game en route to helping Radford to an early 1-0 advantage.
The Radford duo of
Petra Dajevic (Zagreb, Croatia/Sportska gimnazija) and
Ivana Tomaic (Zagreb, Croatia/Third Gymnasium) pushed their winning streak to seven with an 8-2 victory over Ashley Rogers and Kateryna Chorna.
Carrying the doubles momentum into singles action, the Highlanders secured the victory by winning the first three singles matches. Sophomore
Mirna Matic (Umag, Croatia/Vladmir Gortan Buje) recorded a straight-set victory over Tatiana Velasquez to give Radford their seventh win in eight matches.
Dajevic continues to roll in singles competition as she defeated Kateryna Chorna in straight-sets to run her streak to seven straight.
Radford will be back in action Sunday, March 29 at 1:00 p.m. against conference foe UNC Asheville.
