NINETY-SIX, S.C. –
Led by freshman Jade Okamoto's (Huntington Beach, Calif./Marina) ninth place showing, the Radford women's golf team matched their highest finish in school history placing fourth at the 2009 Big South Championships Wednesday.

The three-day event hosted by High Point University was played on the par 72, 5,956-yard Patriot Club layout.

For the third consecutive day, Okamoto carded a six-over 78 to conclude her first campaign with a personal-best 54-hole total of 234.

Just three spots behind Okamoto on the individual leaderboard was all-conference selection Hannah Coles (Birmingham, England/The Coleshill School), who carded her second straight four-over 76 to finish at 237 (85-76-76).

Junior Megan Leineweber (Salisbury, Md./Parkside) also finished inside the Top 20 with a 15th place showing, while Brittany Hine (Elkton, Va.) and Maggie Watts (Paris, Ky./Paris) came home tied for 24th and 27th, respectively.

Along with recording their highest finish in the Big South Championship since 2001, the Highlanders' 54-hole total of 951 bettered their previous conference best by 11 strokes.

Under the direction of first-year head coach Jeff Beeler, Radford concludes its 2008-09 season with four top-five finishes and placed in the top half of the field six times.

Coastal Carolina won the team title by 18 strokes and earned the Big South's automatic bid to the 2009 NCAA Tournament. Charleston Southern finished second at 929 (322-299-308), while Winthrop placed third.

Four of the Chanticleers' individuals finished in the top-five including Aruka Felgueroso, who claimed individual medalist with a final score of two-over par.
