RADFORD, Va. – First-year head coach Jeff Beeler recently announced that Sophia Montenegro (Oakton, Va./James Madison) has signed a National Letter of Intent to join the Radford women's golf team for the 2009-10 campaign.

“We are excited about Sophia joining us in the fall of 2009,” said Coach Beeler. “She is extremely talented and experienced, which should allow her to compete for a spot in the starting lineup right away.”

A two-time all-state selection for Coach Ted Savia, Montenegro was a four-year letterwinner at James Madison High School, while competing on the boys varsity squad.

Rated the No. 6 golfer in the state of Virginia in 2009, Montenegro is also a member of the VSGA Junior Girls Golf Team.

Off the course, Montenegro is a member of the National Honor Society and selected to the National Society of High School Scholars.

Coming off a fourth place finish at the 2009 Big South Championships, Radford concluded its 2008-09 season with four top-five finishes and placed in the top half of the field six times.
