WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Radford's furious second half rally fell short as it dropped a 2-1 decision at William Mary, Friday evening from Busch Field.

Trailing 2-0 after Leah Zamesnik scored the eventual game-winner for William & Mary (4-5) in the 41st minute, Radford turned up the offensive pressure. After a timeout, the Highlanders (2-5) generated several scoring opportunities over the final 25 minutes.

During the flurry, Radford was awarded a penalty stroke in the 54th minute. Lara Cariker (Fredericksburg, Va./Chancellor) drilled it home, cutting the Tribe's lead in half. It was the junior's first goal of the season.

The Highlanders continued to put pressure on, but the Tribe's second half keeper Carrie Thompson made three of her four saves, including one on Radford's final scoring chance by Kay Tufts (Virginia Beach, Va./Ocean Lakes) with 1:11 left to preserve the win.

The Tribe out shot Radford, 19-13, with the Highlanders holding a 4-2 advantage in corners. Tufts and junior Becca Devlin (Annapolis, Md./St. Mary's) paced RU with three shots apiece. Junior Jen Wisniewski (Centreville, Va./Westfield) made five saves for the Highlanders.

William & Mary got on the board first at 22:59 on a tally by Jenna Cinalli. After the initial cross was stuffed by Wisniewski, Cinalli corralled the ball and flipped it over Wisniewski.

The Highlanders had a great opportunity to tie the match a few minutes later. After sophomore Madonna Wadolowski's (Norwalk, Conn./Brien McMahon) shot was saved by Camilla Hill, the Highlanders earned consecutive corners, but Hill made another save and the third shot was blocked.

Wisniewski finished the half with four saves, while Hill kept Radford off the scoreboard with three stops. Five different Highlanders recorded a shot in the first half, while the Tribe registered 11 shots led by Cinelli's half-high three.

Radford concludes its non-conference home schedule on Sunday, Sept. 27 hosting Robert Morris at 1 p.m.
