RADFORD, Va. – Longwood spoiled Radford field hockey's senior day with a 5-1 victory over the Highlanders (8-7, 2-3 NorPac), Sunday afternoon from RU Hockey Field.

After sophomore Emily Voss cut Longwood's (4-12, 2-2 NorPac) lead to 2-1 early in the second half, the Lancers answered with a pair of quick strikes from Stacy de Grandhomme to push their advantage to 4, regain momentum and cruise to the win.

Prior to the match, Radford's senior class of Lara Cariker, Becca Devlin, Megan Lenhardt, Kay Tufts and Jennifer Wisniewski were recognized in a ceremony.

For Voss, it was her first collegiate goal and it came off a cross from junior Madonna Wadolowski. After receiving the feed, she spun and deposited near post to make it 2-1 in the 43rd minute. It was Wadolowski's team-leading eighth assist, while Voss became the 14th Highlander to find the back of the cage this season.

Just two minutes following Voss' tally, de Grandhomme ripped one in helping Longwood regain the two-goal advantage. She would follow with her second tally 3:18 later on a rebound during a corner.

de Grandhomme and Lauren Sullivan each tallied two goals for the Lancers.

The Lancers out shot the Highlanders 14-9 and held a slight advantage in corners, 4-3. Radford had come into the match averaging over 10 corners a game.

Sullivan provided the only goal of the first half, when she snuck one past an on-rushing RU keeper Wisniewski after gathering a long through ball from Alison Akers.

The Lancers went into halftime with a 1-0 lead, outshooting (7-4) and out cornering (3-1) Radford.

Amanda Babineau made it 2-0 early in the second half for Longwood as she picked up a loose ball on a breakaway and scored into an empty cage. Sullivan assisted after making the run with Babineau from the left.

Radford returns to action next Sunday, Oct. 24 to take on Virginia at 1 p.m.
