DAVIDSON, N.C. - Radford dropped its final NorPac match of the season as it was upended by league-leader Davidson, 3-2, in overtime from Belk Turf Field.
Senior
Kay Tufts and junior
Courtney Poole each tallied a first half goal for the Highlanders. Tufts' tally was her team-leading ninth, while Poole tallied her fifth of the season.
Each team scored two goals in the first stanza. After a scoreless second half, which saw a strong defensive effort by the Highlanders, Davidson's Finley Amato scored in the 74th minute to give the Wildcats the victory.
Amato finished with two goals for the Wildcats.
Amato nearly scored in the third minute of the extra frame after stealing the ball in the circle, but Radford goalkeeper
Jennifer Wisniewski was able to make the save on Amato's shot from outside the right post. Just a minute later, a giveaway right in front of the cage gave Amato a wide open cage to record the game-winner.
After Amato gave Davidson the early 1-0 lead in the seventh minute, Radford answered just 18 seconds later. Tufts deflected a shot from
Madonna Wadolowski into the top left corner of the goal. Wadolowski's helper was her team-best ninth of the season.
Radford pulled ahead, 2-1 in the 24th minute when Poole was able to carry the ball from midfield into the circle and lift it over DC keeper Sarah Fisher.
Ellie Szykowny evened the match in the 28th minute for the Wildcats.
Davidson finished with a 13-9 advantage in shots, and held a 5-2 in penalty corners. Wisniewski made five saves for the Highlanders, while Fisher stopped three.
