Baseball Batters Saint Joseph's For First Win, 11-2

– Right-hander Eddie Butler (Chesapeake, Va./Greenbrier Christian) won his first collegiate start, Alex Guerra (Wantagh, N.Y./Wantagh) and Matt Mack (Davidsonville, Md./St. John's College H.S.) had three hits each, and Radford won its first game of the season 11-2 over Saint Joseph's at the Charleston Crab House Shootout on Saturday.

Butler posted the longest outing for a Radford starter this year, going 6 1/3 innings to earn his first collegiate win (1-0).   He allowed one run on seven hits and struck out two.

The Highlanders (1-4) collected 15 hits, including three each from Guerra and Mack, who each scored three runs in the win.   Tyren Rivers (Suffolk, Va./Nansemond River), Jeff Kemp (Bowie, Md./Archibishop Spalding), Raphael Turner (Washington, D.C./Woodrow Wilson) and Carl Travers (Huntingtown, Md./Riverdale Baptist) had two hits apiece, as the Highlanders had six double-digit hitting performances.  Travers drove in three runs and Turner had 2 RBIs.

Radford scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning, and never looked back.   The Highlanders exploded for six in the third inning, batting around and plating runs on RBI hits by Guerra, Travers, Rivers and Brett Mollenhauer (Roanoke, Va./Hidden Valley).

Radford added two more runs in the third to take a 10-1 lead.

Saint Joseph's (0-2) got its only runs of the day in the second and seventh innings.

The Highlanders close out action in the Charleston Crab House Shootout on Sunday, playing host The Citadel at 1:30 p.m.
