OKAMOTO AND WOMEN'S GOLF T-10TH AFTER DAY ONE OF LOW COUNTRY INTERCOLLEGIATE

TEAM / INDIVIDUAL LEADERBOARD

HILTON HEAD, S.C. –
Playing in their first event of the spring campaign, the Radford women's golf team sits tied for 10th after round one of the 2010 Low Country Intercollegiate hosted by Western Carolina.

The 36-hole event is being played on the Par 72, 5,814-yard South Course at the Moss Creek Golf Club layout.

Sophomore Jade Okamoto (Huntington Beach, Calif. / Marina) leads the Highlanders individually following a five-over 77, which puts her in a tie for 10th place, just three off the pace.

Radford's Maggie Watts (Paris, Ky / Paris) is just two back of Okamoto in a tie for 20th. Fellow senior Megan Leineweber is currently tied for 54th, while Hannah Coles (Birmingham, England / The Coleshill School) and Amy McCollum (Pittsford, N.Y. / Pittsford) are tied for 60th and 64th, respectively.

Despite having to battle through windy conditions and play their final three holes in limited sunlight, the Highlanders are just 10 strokes behind sixth-place Cincinnati.

The host Catamounts hold the top spot on the team leaderboard by five strokes over Augusta State, James Madison and Jacksonville.

On a day that featured 611 bogeys or worse, four players will share the overnight lead at two-over par.

The final round of the two-day event will begin with a 9:30 a.m. shotgun start Sunday morning.
