RADFORD, Va.Ryan Burgess hit the first two home runs of his collegiate career and Eddie Butler went eight innings, powering Radford to its sixth straight victory with a 10-2 win over UNC Asheville in Big South conference baseball on Saturday afternoon.

Burgess went 2-for-4 with a pair of two-run homers, one in the second and another in the third, to stake the Highlanders (9-7, 2-0 Big South) to a 6-0 on the Bulldogs (4-11, 0-2) through three innings.

Butler turned in a career-long outing to pick up the win (3-0).   The freshman righty cruised through the day, allowing one earned run on five hits while striking out five UNC Asheville hitters.

“We did some things I haven't seen all year long,” head coach Joe Raccuia said.  “Butler has really continued this trend of good starting pitching, which is keeping us in these games, and Ryan Burgess is doing what we recruited him to do.  He's a bat to be reckoned with and I think he'll have a good career.”

Reggie Keen drove in three runs for Radford, including a fifth-inning two-run single, in a 4-for-5 effort at the plate.   Matt Hillsinger had his second straight three hit game, including two triples to bring his total to four in the last two games.    Raphael Turner went 2-for-4 to extend his hitting streak to seven games.

“We drove some balls off the wall, we hit with multiple runners on base, used our speed to hit some triples, and defensively we had a good game,” Raccuia said.  “Just a well-played game all the way around and a good effort for our guys.”

Ian Graham had the only multi-hit game for the Bulldogs, going 2-for-3 with an RBI double in the fourth inning.

Radford jumped on the Bulldogs, building a 10-1 lead through five innings.  The Highlanders had their biggest inning in the second, when Burgess' two-run homer was followed up by Hillsinger's RBI triple and Tyren Rivers' run-scoring single, giving Radford a 4-0 lead.

The Highlanders plated two runs in each of the next three innings.

Taylor Wohlwend took the loss (1-3) for UNC Asheville, allowing eight runs in 3 2/3 innings.

The series between Radford and UNC Asheville concludes on Sunday at 1 p.m.
