FAIRFAX, Va. – The Radford women's tennis team pushed their winning streak to six by defeating George Mason, 5-2, in non-conference action Sunday afternoon.
The Highlanders improve to 8-3 overall, while the Patriots drop to 13-6.
Radford took an early 1-0 lead by winning two out of the three doubles matches.
Mia Drobnjak paired with
Sara Tegner at No. 2 doubles to defeat Allison Wingo and Meredith Cutchin, 8-2. The Highlander tandem of
Petra Dajevic and
Emerald Lauzon outlasted George Mason's combination of Cecelia Marie Greco and Andrea Londen for the critical 8-6 win that clinched the point.
Radford closed out its victory with singles wins from Drobnjak,
Ivana Tomaic, Dajevic and Tegner. The clinching victory occurred on court two, where Tomaic cruised to a 6-2, 6-2 win over Gray. The Highlanders' first two singles victories came at No.1 and No. 2. Drobnjak tallied a 6-2, 6-3 win over Kirsten Pappas, while Dajevic cruised by Wingo 6-2, 6-2.
With the match already in hand, Tegner defeated Aryn Christman 6-2, 6-4 to close out the match for the Highlanders.
The Highlanders return to action March 24 against North Carolina Central at 3:00 p.m.
