ETSU ROLLS PAST BASEBALL, 22-10

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn.
– East Tennessee State scored eight runs in the second and nine runs in the fifth, while hitting four homers en route to a 22-10 non-conference win over Radford on Wednesday afternoon.

Bo Reeder tied an ETSU (14-4) school record with three home runs, hitting two in a nine-run fifth to lead the Buccaneers to their fourth straight win.  Paul Hoilman added a solo blast in the seventh for his Atlantic Sun-leading 10th of the year.

Both teams combined to issue 24 walks (Radford 14, ETSU 10) and commit nine errors (Radford 5, ETSU 4).

“We just threw a day away,” head coach Joe Raccuia said.  “I'm embarrassed with the way we played.  Our effort was poor, and our defense, pitching and offense were poor.

“To not be able to carry this win streak was disappointing.  We'll get them ready to play this weekend.”

Reeder finished the day 4-for-5 to extend his hitting streak to 21 games, the third-longest active streak in Division I, driving in seven runs and scoring four times.  Hoilman drove in three runs and walked three times.   Kerry Doane went 5-for-6 and worked two innings of scoreless relief.

Reggie Keen went 2-for-5 for Radford (10-8) with three RBIs.  Raphael Turner extended his hitting streak to nine games, going 1-for-3 with a pair of walks.

Pete Whittingslow picked up the win for ETSU (1-0), holding the Highlanders at bay for an inning and a third.   Josh Constable lasted just an inning in his start to take the loss (1-1).

The Highlanders made it 11-10 with a six-run fifth, capping the inning on Keen's two-run, two-out single in rallying from an 11-4 deficit.  But ETSU pounded four hits, got two Reeder home runs and drew four walks in the fifth to open up the game on Radford and stop the Highlanders' winning streak at seven games.

Radford returns home for a three-game non-conference series against Siena, beginning with a Saturday doubleheader beginning at noon.
