RADFORD, Va. – The Radford women's tennis team pushed their winning streak to seven by defeating North Carolina Central 7-0 in non-conference action Wednesday afternoon at the RU Tennis Courts.
The Highlanders improve to 9-3 overall, while the Eagles drop to 5-14.
Radford took two of the three matches in doubles, taking an early 1-0 advantage. At No. 3 doubles,
Emerald Lauzon and
Ivana Tomaic won by forfeit. The tandem of
Mia Drobnjak and
Sara Tegner clinched the doubles point with an 8-3 win over Cameron Chatman and Tatiana Velasquez on court two.
In singles action,
Mirna Matic put the Highlanders up 3-0 with a 6-0, 6-0, victory over Velasquez. Tegner secured the win for Radford as she cruised to a 6-1, 6-0, victory over Maria Medina.
Drobnjak and Tomaic each dropped a set, but battled back to defeat Olesya Palko and Chatman 4-6, 6-2, 10-2 and 6-1, 1-6, 10-8, respectively.
With the match already in hand,
Petra Dajevic topped Kateryna Chorna 6-2, 6-2 at No. 3.
The Highlanders return to action March 27 against conference foe Presbyterian at 1:00 pm.
