TEAM / INDIVIDUAL LEADERBOARD
BEALLSVILLE, Md. – Jade Okamoto and
Hannah Coles continued their strong play Tuesday as the duo recorded Top-15 finishes to lead the Radford women's golf team to a 10th place showing at the 2010 Hoya Invitational hosted by Georgetown.
Due to extremely wet playing conditions, tournament officials shortened the two-day event from 54 to 36 holes.
The 17-team / 90-competitor event was played on the Par 72, 6,127-yard Four Streams Country Club layout.
After entering the final day tied for 16th, Okamoto climbed into a tie for 12th (78-80=158) on the individual leaderboard, while Coles finished one back of the sophomore tied for 15th (78-81=159).
Along with their Top-10 finish, the Highlanders (327-337=664) placed higher than schools from the ACC and Big East.
In addition to Tuesday's average individual score being 85.29, the annual event featured 1729 bogeys or worse.
Megan Leineweber, the Big South's reigning golfer of the week, came home tied for 70th.
Also competing for Radford were
Maggie Watts and
Amy McCollum, who finished tied for 70th and 85th, respectively.
Nova Southeastern (303) captured the team title by four strokes over Maryland. Along with it being their sixth tournament crown of the 2009-10 season, the Sharks' Sandra Changkija claimed individual medalist with a 36-hole total of one-under 143 (72-71).
Radford will continue its five-tournament spring schedule April 5-6 at the Mimosa Hills Intercollegiate in Morganton, N.C.
