ORLANDO, Fla. – After dropping their Big South opener, the Radford women's tennis team rebounded to defeat Appalachian State, 7-0, at Red Bug Park Tuesday afternoon.

The Highlanders improve to 3-3, while the Mountaineers drop to 6-4.

Radford started the match in impressive fashion by winning two of the three doubles matches. At the No. 2 spot, the Highlander duo of Mia Drobnjak (Zagreb, Croatia/Sportska Gimnazija) and Sara Tegner (Amal, Sweden/Karlbergs Gymnasium) were victorious over Blakeley Bean and Gisela Fernandez, 8-6. The tandem of Petra Dajevic (Zagreb, Croatia/Sportska Gimnazija) and Emerald Lauzon (Bristol, Va./John S. Battle) secured the doubles point with an 8-2 victory over Laura Janke and Jennifer Ansari.

Despite a solid effort, Ivana Tomaic (Zagreb, Croatia/Third Gymnasium) and Mirna Matic (Umag, Croatia/Vladimir Gortan Buje) fell short on court one, falling 8-5 to Olivia Stannard and Ellie Linsell.

Singles action saw the Highlanders record straight-set wins in five out the six matches. Dajevic cruised to a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Stannard at the three spot, while Drobnjak rolled to a 6-2, 6-3 win over Linsell at the top position. Matic clinched the win for Radford at the fourth spot, with a 6-3, 6-2 defeat of Carolina Mauch. Tomaic and Tegner each recorded straight-set wins, while Lauzon had to battle back from a one-set deficit to win her match in three, 5-7, 6-3, 10-6.

The Highlanders return to action tomorrow against Sacred Heart at 12:30 p.m.
