LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Radford women's tennis team extended their winning streak to nine by defeating Liberty, 6-1, in Big South action Thursday afternoon at the LU Tennis Complex.
The Highlanders improve to 11-3 overall and 3-1 conference, while the Flames fall to 3-12 overall and 0-5 in conference.
Radford earned the doubles point with victories on court two and three. At No. 3 doubles,
Petra Dajevic and
Emerald Lauzon won by default.
Mia Drobnjak and
Sara Tegner teamed up to secure the doubles point with an, 8-5, win over Nadia Solomon-Burgess and Fabiana Gouveia at No. 2.
In singles action, the Highlanders won five out of the six matches. Lauzon won by default at No. 6, while Tegner put Radford up 2-0 as she rolled past Gouveia 6-0, 6-1 on court six. The clinching point occurred at No.4, where
Mirna Matic earned a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Brittany Thomas.
Dajevic and
Ivana Tomaic each needed three sets to put away their opponents. Dajevic took down Carol Lobel 6-2, 0-6, 10-7 and Tomaic topped Burgess 6-3, 2-6, 10-6.
The Highlanders will back on the court April 3 against conference foe Charleston Southern at 11:00 a.m.
