SOFTBALL LOOKS TO CLINCH REGULAR SEASON ON ESPNU

ROCK HILL, S.C. --
Radford softball closes out Big South regular season play this weekend with a three-game series at Winthrop. The series begins on Saturday with a doubleheader 11 a.m. and wraps up Sunday with a nationally televised contest on ESPNU at 2 p.m.

The Highlanders are looking to clinch their second straight regular season title and top seed when they face the Eagles at Terry Field. One win will secure the top seed and two clinches the regular season outright.

For the fourth consecutive season, Radford softball will be featured on ESPNU.

It will be the third time Radford will matchup with the Eagles and the second in Rock Hill, S.C. The teams were showcased in the first ever nationally-televised Big South softball contest on May 6, 2007 with the Highlanders topping the Eagles, 9-2.

Radford is undefeated on the network, posting a 3-0 record after defeating Winthrop, 9-4 on April 19, 2009 from RU Softball Field. The Highlanders also defeated Coastal Carolina, 6-3 in 2008.

The Highlanders had their 13-game winning streak snapped on Wednesday, dropping a doubleheader at Virginia. With those pair of defeats, Radford lost consecutive games for the first time since an early season four-game slide. In their previous Big South series, the Highlanders swept all three games at Coastal Carolina, culminating with a 6-4 come-from-behind game three triumph.

Winthrop sits in third place with a 6-5 mark, two and a half games behind Liberty. The Eagles also dropped a pair of games in their mid-week double header at USC Upstate. Prior to that, they took two of three at Charleston Southern last weekend.
