FARMVILLE, Va. – The Radford women's tennis team recorded their ninth victory in the last 10 outings as they defeated Longwood, 6-1, in a non-conference tilt Tuesday afternoon at Lancer Courts.
The Highlanders improve to 12-4 overall, while the Lancers fall to 9-7.
Radford put the first team point on the board by winning two out of the three doubles matches. With the doubles matches tied 1-1, the tandem of
Petra Dajevic and
Emerald Lauzon clinched the point by defeating Hannah Hill and Laura Simon, 8-2.
At No. 2 doubles, the duo of
Mia Drobnjak and
Sara Tegner pushed their record to 10-4 by edging Mason Davis and Allison Shulman, 8-6.
In singles action, the Highlanders captured five out of the six matches. On court two,
Ivana Tomaic secured the win for Radford by outlasting Zsofia Jakab in a second-set tiebreaker, 6-2, 7-6 (7-4).
On court one, Drobnjak won a straight-set affair over Laura Simon. At the No. 5 singles position, Tegner dropped the first set 2-6 and was up 4-1 in the second before Shulman was forced to retire.
With the match already in hand, Dajevic needed a third-set tiebreaker to get past Marta Pinyol 6-1, 3-6, 10-8.
The Highlanders will back on the court April 8 against in-state foe James Madison at 2:30 p.m.
