FOREST CITY, N.C. – Adam McFarland's walk-off single in the 10th inning gave Gardner-Webb a 5-4 win over Radford in the second game of a day-night doubleheader on Saturday.
The Bulldogs (23-27, 9-15 Big South) got a come-from-behind win of their own after the Highlanders (28-22, 15-9) rallied for wins in each of the first two games of the series. Gardner-Webb trailed 3-2 in the bottom of the eighth inning, before plating a pair and adding the winning run in the 10th.
McFarland's hit in the 10th was his first of the game - Gardner-Webb got two hits each from Kurt Fulginiti and Aaron Miller, and two RBIs from McFarland and John Harris, who drove home both runs in the eighth inning.
Matt Hillsinger and
Alex Guerra had two hits each, and
Reggie Keen singled with two outs in the ninth inning to tie the game at 2-2.
Hillsinger scored to give the Highlanders the go-ahead run in the eighth, coming home when the throw in from right field got away from the cut-off man, allowing Hillsinger to come home from third and give Radford a 3-2 lead.
Brett Stackhouse came back a day after his Friday start, fanning three hitters in an inning and a third of relief to pick up the win (3-3).
Radford resumes its five-game road trip on Tuesday afternoon at Marshall.
