RADFORD, Va. – First-year head coach
Marc Reeves and the Radford Highlanders will kick-off their 2010 men's soccer campaign with a 1 p.m. contest at Mount St. Mary's Saturday afternoon.
The Highlanders, who finished their three-match exhibition slate 1-1-1, return 18 letterwinners from last year's squad, including
Iyiola Awosika (London, England/Aylesbury Grammar) and
Anthony Payne (Manassas, Va./Osbourn Park), who led the squad with three strikes each during the preseason.
Also back for Radford is
Brian Gwanzura (Harare, Zimbabwe/Harare), who led the club in scoring a year ago.
Radford, which has won six of its last eight season openers, is 2-0-1 all-time against the Mountaineers, including a 1-0 win on Sept. 14, 2008 in Emmitsburg, Md.
The Mount enters the contest 0-1-0 following a 2-0 setback to in-state foe Towson on Wednesday evening.
Saturday's opener is the first of four straight away from home for the Highlanders, who will travel to Marshall for a 1 p.m. game Monday.
