DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Radford women's tennis team opened the 2011 spring season with a 6-1 loss to the Charlotte 49ers at the Covington Tennis Courts on the Davidson campus Friday evening.

The Highlanders were unable to take advantage of the doubles portion, dropping two of three matches, which put them behind, 1-0.

Radford's duo of Mia Drobnjak and Sara Tegner defeated Emmanuelle Briant and Iveta Guneva, 8-6.

In singles action, the Highlanders dropped five out of six matches. Senior Ivana Tomaic captured a straight-set victory over Gabi Vergara, 6-1, 6-0, for Radford's lone win.

Radford will return to the court tomorrow at 10 a.m. to take on host Davidson.
