FINAL RESULTS
RICHMOND, Va. – Freshman
Alex Austin (Burke, Va./Robinson) of the Radford women's golf team carded a final-round and career-best 69 (-3) to finish fifth overall at the Spider Invitational Tuesday afternoon.
Austin (78-78-69, 225), who jumped 13 positions up the leaderboard, was the lone player in the third round to shoot in the 60s and was one of two players in the entire tournament to accomplish the feat.
As a team, the Highlanders (315-308-309) shot a 932 (+68) and finished sixth in the team standings.
In addition to Austin's performance, senior
Jade Okamoto (Huntington Beach, Calif./Marina) also recorded a Top-10 showing, finishing eighth with a 229 (+13). Her final-round 74 tied for the third lowest score of the day.
Paige Reese (South Hill, Va./Park View),
Kirsty Condon (Lincolnshire, England/Kesteven and Sleaford) and
Amy McCollum (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford) deadlocked in a tie for 30th at 239.
Austin and McCollum capped the two-day event with nine birdies apiece, the third highest total in the tournament.
The Highlanders hit the links for the final time during the fall at the CSU Wendy's Invitational Oct. 17-18.
